







The original settlement dates back to the first half of the 16th century at the Řezná streamlet on a former significant trade path and connecting link between Bohemia and Bavaria at ironstone deposits – that is why the town has got its name. In 1849 the settlement was declared a township and its new owner duke Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen enlarged its land in 1852 to more than 6,000 hectares. At the end of the 19th century the significance of the town further increased as a railway line was built from Plzeň to Bavaria with the than longest tunnel in former Austria-Hungaria. The end of the 19th century became the beginning of growth of tourism.
